Greenery adjustments in the municipality

In 2011, the municipal council decided to cut back on green space maintenance. In order to meet this cutback target, part of the shrub beds in the municipality will be converted to lawn.

Also, a portion of the existing lawn and some shrub beds will be converted to so-called extensive grass. This extensive grass looks like the grass in the verges. In this way, the maintenance costs for the greenery will be significantly reduced from 2013.

Management of shrub beds

Shrub beds are labor-intensive and therefore expensive to maintain. Pruning, weeding, and hoeing are recurring activities.

Lawns

The lawns are mowed weekly. The clippings are shredded and left in place. This makes the maintenance much cheaper than that of the shrub beds.

Extensive grass

Extensive grass is grass that is mowed only twice a year. The clippings are removed. This allows various plant species to develop, resulting in more flowers. We fully realize that not everyone will appreciate this method of management. However, budget cuts force us to make these choices.

Digital maps

A map is available for each village. The shrub beds that are being converted into lawns are indicated in red. The shrub beds or lawns that are changing into extensive grass are indicated in dark green. You can zoom in on the maps for a better overview.

You can find the maps at the bottom of this page. They are also available for inspection at the Building and Housing desk in the town hall.
