Adjustments greenery in the municipality
In 2011, the municipal council decided to cut back on green space maintenance. In order to meet this cutback target, part of the shrub beds in the municipality will be converted to lawn.
A portion of the existing lawn and some shrub areas will also be converted to what is known as extensive grass. This extensive grass looks like the grass in roadsides. In this way, the maintenance costs for the greenery will be significantly reduced from 2013.
Shrubland management
Livestock beds are labor-intensive and therefore expensive to maintain. Pruning, weeding and hoeing are recurring activities.
Lawns
Lawns are mowed weekly. The clippings are reduced and left lying around. This makes maintenance a lot cheaper than that of the shrub lawns.
Extensive grass
Extensive grass is grass that is cut only twice a year. The clippings are disposed of. This gives various plant species a chance to develop. As a result, more flowers can be seen. We fully realize that not everyone will appreciate this method of management. However, budget cuts are forcing us to make these choices.
Digital maps
A map is available for each village. The shrub areas that will be converted to lawn are indicated in red. The shrub areas or lawns that are changing to extensive grass are indicated in dark green. You can zoom in on the maps for a better overview.
You can find the maps at the bottom of this page. They are also available for inspection at the Building and Housing counter in City Hall.
