Discrimination

Anyone facing unequal treatment can turn to Discrimination.nl for help and advice. Tytsjerksteradiel works closely with this.

Discrimination is when someone is treated differently because of their ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. This is not only unfair, it is also punishable.

What does discrimination do?

Discrimination can happen anywhere: during a job application, when looking for housing, at school, at work, in stores or while going out. Sometimes it is obvious, as in bullying or threats. More often it is subtle, hidden in rules or in the way people are excluded.

Poverty and difficulty finding housing can also result from unequal treatment. Discrimination affects people in their daily lives, affects their opportunities, rights and self-confidence, and can lead to isolation and loneliness.
