Address investigation

You can view the number of registered residents at your home address on MijnOverheid (and in the MijnGegevens app).

This new functionality is intended to provide more information to residents about (new) registrations at a residential address. This ensures that it is always clear how many people are registered at a residential address and that new registrations are immediately visible. If it appears that there is a new or incorrect registration at the address, you can contact the municipality. The municipality can then start an address investigation and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to correct the registrations.

The advantages

  • It provides insight into the number of registered residents at someone's address, without needing to contact the municipality.
  • New registrations are immediately visible. If an incorrect registration is made at the residential address, action can be taken more quickly.
  • The improved insight reduces the risk of receiving incorrect allowances or benefits. Allowances and benefits may change if more or fewer people are registered at an address.

When can I request an address investigation?

You can request an address investigation from the municipality in the following cases:

  • Someone is registered at your address who does not live there.
  • Someone has a postal address at your address and you can no longer reach that person.
  • Someone has a postal address at your address and you want to withdraw your consent for the postal address.

What do I need to do?

You can request a residency investigation if you are the owner, tenant, or co-resident of the property. You can also withdraw a residency investigation.

What do I need to bring?

  • Your valid proof of identity.
  • Proof that you own or rent the property, such as a purchase or rental agreement.
  • If you know who it concerns, also provide the name, date of birth and telephone number of this person.
