Hold a demonstration or protest

In the Netherlands, everyone has the right to organize a demonstration or protest. This is a fundamental right. If you wish to demonstrate in a public place, you must notify the municipality at least 48 hours in advance. This allows them to assess in good time whether any measures are necessary, for example, for traffic and safety.

Please email veiligheid@t-diel.nl to register for the meeting.

How does it work?

It is important that the demonstration does not disrupt public order or endanger the safety of citizens. Therefore, consult with the municipality in advance.

When can the municipality ban a demonstration?

  • You reported your demonstration to the municipality too late.
  • You did not provide the municipality with the required information on time.
  • In the interest of traffic and traffic safety.
  • To prevent disturbances and aggression from occurring.
  • To protect health.

The content of a demonstration should never be the reason for a restriction or ban.

What to do.

You must register your demonstration with the municipality. Do this at least 48 hours before the gathering. Provide the municipality with the following information:

  • your name and address
  • the purpose of the meeting
  • date of the meeting
  • what time the meeting starts and ends
  • the location and/or the route
  • number of people you expect
  • measures you take as an organizer to ensure that the meeting runs smoothly
