Information about voting
On the day of the municipal elections, you may vote if you are 18 years of age or older and registered in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel. To vote, you will need a voting pass and proof of identity. You will receive your voting pass at your home address no later than March 4, 2026.

Who is eligible to vote?
You may vote in Tytsjerksteradiel if you meet three conditions:
- You will be 18 years of age or older on March 18, 2026.
- You are registered in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel on February 2, 2026.
- You are not excluded from voting.
Dutch nationality is not a requirement for municipal elections. Non-Dutch citizens from the European Union who live in the municipality are also eligible to vote. The same applies to non-Dutch citizens from outside the EU who have been legally resident in the Netherlands for at least five years.
When will I receive my voting pass?
Your voting pass will be delivered to your home by Wednesday, March 4, at the latest.
I did not receive a voting card. What should I do?
If you have not received your voting pass by Thursday, March 5, you can request a replacement voting pass via this page starting March 5.
My voting card is lost or damaged. What should I do?
You need a voting pass to vote. If you have not received yours, have lost it, or it is damaged, you can request a replacement voting pass from March 5. The old voting pass will then become invalid.
Where can I vote?
With your voting pass and valid ID, you can cast your vote at one of the 24 polling stations in Tytsjerksteradiel. The polling stations are open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Go to thePolling stations in the municipalitypage for more information.
What do I need to vote?
To vote, you will need a voting pass and proof of identity. Your voting pass will be sent to your home address no later than Wednesday, March 4. On the day of the vote, your proof of identity may be no more than five years out of date. You can bring one of the following Dutch identity documents with you:
- Passport
- Id.
- Driving License
- Alien document
As an EU citizen, you can bring one of the following documents:
- Passport
- Driving License
- Id.
As a non-EU citizen, you must have been legally resident in the Netherlands for at least 5 years. To cast your vote, bring your valid Dutch residence permit and your passport to the polling station.
How does voting work?
You vote by coloring the white circle in front of the candidate of your choice red.
Are you mistaken?
You return the ballot paper to the chairperson, after which you will receive a new ballot paper. Please note: you will only receive one new ballot paper.
Blank votes are allowed
You cast a blank vote by not making a choice and then placing the folded ballot paper in the ballot box. This vote is valid and counts towards the turnout percentage, but does not count towards the calculation of the result.
My ID has expired. Can I vote?
Your ID must not have expired more than 5 years ago. This means you can use an identity document that states 'valid until March 19, 2021' or any later date. If your identity document has expired for longer than five years, you can only vote by written proxy. I have lost my ID. What should I do?
Have you lost your ID or has it been stolen? Then you can vote by submitting a statement of loss. This is available by appointment at the municipality. You must also show a card or document with your name and photo on it. This could be a public transport card, for example.
Letting someone else vote (proxy)
Can't vote yourself? Then you can give someone else permission to vote for you. This is called "voting by proxy. This can be done by a:
- private power of attorney or
- written power of attorney.
The person authorized by you can only cast your vote at the same time as his own. The voter being authorized may accept a maximum of two proxies.
Authorize someone with your voting card (private proxy)
On the back of the voting pass, enter the name of the person who will vote on your behalf. This is called a private proxy. The conditions are:
- He or she must be registered in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel.
- He or she must cast their own and your vote simultaneously.
- He or she must also bring your valid, or up to 5 years expired, ID. This may also be a copy.
Giving an authorization on the back of the voting card can be done up to and including the day of the election.
Written power of attorney
You do not have to wait until you receive your voting pass. From February 16, you can authorize someone else to vote for you via DigiD or a written request. The authorized representative will receive a proxy voting pass. You can read how to do this on this page from February 16.
