Simple explanation of how to vote
At www.hoewerktstemmen.nl, web helper Steffie explains all about voting. She explains how elections work and what the House of Representatives does. You can also practice voting online with her.
Below you will find more information about your voting pass and how to cast your vote. This information is updated regularly.
Who gets to vote?
You may vote in Tytsjerksteradiel if you meet 4 conditions:
- You have the Dutch nationality.
- You will be 18 years of age or older on Oct. 29, 2025.
- You are registered in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel on September 15, 2025.
- You are not excluded from the right to vote.
When will I receive my voting card?
Your voting card will be delivered to your home no later than Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
Where can I vote?
With your voting pass and a valid ID, you can cast your vote at one of the 23 polling stations in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel. The polling stations are open from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. Go to the page Polling stations in the municipality for more information.
What do I need to vote?
To vote, you will need a voting pass and a Dutch ID. Your voting pass will be sent to your home by Wednesday, October 15 at the latest. Your proof of identity may not have expired for more than 5 years. You can bring one of these Dutch identity documents with you:
- passport
- ID card
- driving license
How does voting work?
You vote by coloring the white circle for the candidate of your choice red.
Are you mistaken?
You return the ballot to the chairperson, and a new ballot will be given to you. Please note that you will only receive a new ballot paper 1 time.
Blank votes are allowed
You vote blank by not making a choice and then placing the ballot paper, folded closed, in the ballot box. This vote is valid and counts toward the turnout percentage, but does not count toward the results calculation.
My ID has expired. Can I vote?
Your proof of identity must not have expired for more than 5 years. Therefore, you can use an identity document that says "valid until October 30, 2020" or any later date. If your ID has expired longer, you can only vote by written proxy. For more information on voting by written proxy, see the section Having someone else vote (proxy).
I lost my identity card. What should I do?
Have you lost your ID or has it been stolen? Then you can vote by submitting a declaration of loss. This is available by appointment at your municipality. You must also show a pass or document with your name and photograph. For example, a public transport chip card.
Voting from abroad
Are you temporarily staying abroad for work or study, for example, and would you like to vote there? Then there are 2 options:
- As a voter, you can authorize someone else in writing to vote for you. This is called a proxy. You will soon find more about this under the heading Getting Someone Else to Vote (Proxy).
- You can vote by letter yourself. You must have a foreign postal address to do this. You then submit this application to the municipality of The Hague. The form must be received by the municipality of The Hague before October 1, 2025 (23:59 Dutch time).
For more information on the application process, please refer to the Municipality of The Hague website .
Recruiting proxies is punishable by law
Proxy canvassing means that someone asks voters, or otherwise approaches voters, to sign and deliver their voting cards. This is punishable. It is also punishable to bribe a voter through a gift or promise. Or to otherwise force the voter to give a proxy.
Do you think votes are being canvassed? Report this to the police.
