Childcare inspection
Childcare organizations must comply with legal quality requirements. The municipality monitors the quality of childcare. An inspector from the Municipal Health Service (GGD) visits each year:
- daycare centers;
- out-of-school care organizations;
- childcare agencies.
Every year, the GGD also checks host parents on a random basis.
If the quality of an organization in childcare is insufficient, the municipality can demand measures. If nothing changes, the municipality can even close the childcare facility.
The policy of the municipality is described in the Policy Rules Enforcement Childcare Act
How does it work?
Childcare centers and childminder agencies are inspected every year. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) always inspects the following at childcare centers:
- your pedagogical policy plan is followed in practice;
- there are enough staff members present for the number of children in care;
- the groups are not too large;
- every employee has a certificate of good conduct (VOG);
- every employee has the correct diplomas;
- the reception location is safe and healthy.
The inspector also asks questions to the parents' committee. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) will draw up a report of the inspection.
National Childcare Register
In the National Childcare Register (LRK) you will find information about all childcare organizations that meet the legal requirements upon starting. Here you will also find the registration number of each organization. You may need this number if you apply for childcare allowance. You can also download the GGD reports on the LRK website.
GGD inspection report
You must place the GGD (Municipal Health Service) inspection report on your website. If you do not have a website, you must make the report available for inspection in a place accessible to parents and staff.
Complaint about childcare
If you as a parent have a complaint about an organization in childcare, you should first take your complaint to the organization itself. If you do not receive a response or your complaint is not taken seriously, you can submit your complaint to the Childcare Disputes Committee within 3 months.
As a parent, do you have a conflict with a childcare organization? You can report your complaint to the Childcare Complaints Committee Foundation.

Childcare allowance
You can receive a contribution towards childcare costs from the municipality if you do not have an employer, but still need to use childcare.
