Pupils Master Frankeskoalle on exploration during Nature Work Day Junior

Last Friday, pupils from groups 6, 7 and 8 of the Master Frankeskoalle from Earnewâld went on a discovery tour during the Nature Work Day Junior in National Park De Alde Feanen.

The morning began festively with a welcome by Alderman Berber van Zandbergen, who warmed up the children with a fun true/false quiz about De Alde Feanen.

"Yn in gemeente als Tytsjerksteradiel, mei safolle prachtige natuer, is it ekstra belangryk that ús youngest ynwenners leare hoe't se hjir goed foar soargje kinne. Watst as bern learst, nimst mei foar de rest fan dyn libben," said alderman Van Zandbergen.

Then the children, armed with gloves and tools, went into the area. Accompanied by volunteers from It Fryske Gea, they enthusiastically set to work: pruning willows, repairing the screen to the bird hide in the Lytse Mear, and of course spotting birds! In the bird hide the children were able to experience nature up close with binoculars. On their turf list appeared cormorants, egrets, gray geese and even the impressive bald eagle, among others. Coordinators from NME center Pingo & Pet told fascinating stories about the special characteristics of these birds.

Outdoors is healthy

Natuurwerkdag Junior is a national day when young nature workers get the chance to actively contribute to nature. Children from all over the Netherlands roll up their sleeves on this day for a variety of jobs in nature. This way they learn about their own habitat and discover how plants, animals and people together form an ecosystem.
