AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. The AED is used to restart the heart after a cardiac arrest by administering an electric shock. Anyone can operate this device, as it is easy to follow step by step. "You really can't do anything wrong with it," according to many course participants. With an AED course, you can prepare yourself for resuscitation using an AED.

AED's in the municipality

It is very important to know where an AED is located in your immediate vicinity. Your knowledge of this can be life-saving at any time. HartslagNu is the resuscitation call system of the Netherlands. HartslagNu replaces the AED-Alert and AED-Locator alarm systems. All citizen responders who were already registered in one of these two systems are now included in HartslagNu. But you can also register as a new citizen responder.

How does HartslagNu work?

If someone calls 112 with the suspicion of a cardiac arrest, HartslagNu automatically calls up citizen responders in the vicinity of the victim. They are instructed to start resuscitation or to get an AED. This way, the victim quickly receives the correct help while the ambulance is on its way.

In case of heart problems, always call 112. Resuscitate and have bystanders get the nearest AED. Because every minute that the AED is on the scene earlier than the ambulance, increases the victim's chances of survival by 10%!
