In Drogeham, work is being done to restore a barge. People with a distance to the labor market or people who want a different job are gaining work experience here and are taking a welding course. There is currently a high demand for welders, so the chance of a job after (or sometimes during) the welding training is high. The NOS has made a video about this project.

Work experience placement

Would you like to get back to work in metalworking, or are you curious whether metalworking is right for you? Then a work experience placement at the barge might be something for you. Together with a group of other interested people, you will work on renovating this beautiful barge. The number of hours and days is simply agreed upon and we will see what suits you.

You will learn all about metalworking, riveting and finishing metal. It may be possible to obtain a practical certificate in metalworking. You also have the opportunity to do a welding course during your work experience placement.

Welding training

The welding training is provided by an institution recognized by the NIL (Netherlands Institute for Welding Technology) at the 'beurtschip' (a historical reference, implying a reputable and established location). This allows you to practice everything you learn. There are ample opportunities to master all welding disciplines. You can complete the welding training at your own pace and finish with a nationally recognized welding diploma from the NIL. After obtaining a welding diploma, we will work with you to find a suitable employer. 

Test weld

Curious whether welding is something for you? Every Monday, Tuesday, or Friday you can do a trial weld completely free of obligation.

Feel free to stop by and experience without obligation whether Project Beurtschip is something for you. If it is something for you, you can choose to participate in the restoration of the Beurtschip, obtain a welding diploma, or both. And all this at your own pace.

De Kruidhof Hortus van Fryslân in Buitenpost is expanding its grounds with a warehouse. In collaboration with the municipality, this is being turned into a work experience project. Under supervision and in consultation with your contact person, you can gain work experience in construction here.
