Remco: "We heard about the Aardgasvrij Garyp project. It sounded interesting and we stopped by It Enerzjyhûs Garyp for information and the possibilities in terms of subsidies. That was very valuable. For example, it turned out that the insulation values our construction company had quoted were not sufficient to receive a subsidy. We then adjusted that."
Well packed
The walls and roof have been insulated with a thick layer of rock wool. The wooden floor was replaced for a concrete floor with underfloor heating and insulation from below with EPS (polystyrene) plates. The old wooden window frames gave way to new ones with HR++ glass. "Our house was completely 'wrapped up' properly," says Dr. K.
Peak times
To heat the house, Remco and Geartsje chose an air source heat pump in addition to the underfloor heating. For extra hot water there is a hot water -recovery system. "What we were a little afraid of was that we would run out of hot water at peak times. The installer of the water tank warned about that. But, fortunately, that has never been the case. Not even when all five of us shower shortly after each other in the morning."
'The temperature in the house is always right'
Happy
Remco and Geartsje are happy with all the steps. "The comfort in our house is great. The temperature is always right." The only thing that is still hard to get used to is the heat -recovery installation. "It's quite a big device on our landing and it makes a whooshing noise all the time. For optimal efficiency from this ventilation system, you have to keep windows closed. But, at night we open the window anyway. We like sleeping that way better."
Solar Panels
Last on the wish list are solar panels. "We would love to generate our own power with all the facilities and equipment we have in the house now. Since our roof is not really suitable for panels, we need to create another place for that."
