Do you (suddenly) have special necessary expenses? In other words, costs that not everyone has? If you have no money for this and you cannot get it reimbursed in any other way, you may be able to get special assistance from the municipality.

Special assistance is not just for people on welfare. Special assistance is also there for people with higher incomes or assets. But it may be less assistance. You cannot apply for special assistance for all expenses. You cannot apply for special assistance for normal expenses such as daily groceries, rent and food.

How does it work?

Special assistance is not only for people with social security benefits. (Partial) special assistance is also possible for people with a higher income or assets.

You can apply for special assistance for many expenses. The most common types are listed below. But please note that these are examples. Ask the municipality about what is possible in your situation. Examples are:

  • health insurance deductible compensation for chronic illness or disability;
  • additional cost of meal service;
  • child care reimbursement;
  • legal aid;
  • (temporarily) high housing costs;
  • necessary guardianship (determined by court).

You cannot apply for special assistance for normal expenses such as daily groceries, rent, furniture, electrical appliances and food.

Am I entitled to special assistance?

There are a number of eligibility requirements for special assistance. These are:

  • You live in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel.
  • These are extra costs that you have to incur due to special or urgent circumstances.
  • Costs are incurred in the Netherlands.
  • You have a low income and few assets not exceeding:
    • €7,770.00 (single person);
    • €15,540.00 (single parent/family (married couple);
    • € 65,500.00 (equity in own home).

How do I apply for special assistance?

You apply for special assistance using the application form at the bottom of this page. Are you receiving social assistance benefits? Then you can fill out an abbreviated application form, which can also be found at the bottom of the page.

Both application forms indicate which items you need to send to us with the form.

You can apply for special assistance before you incur the expenses. You can also apply for it after you have incurred the expenses. You must do this within 2 months after the invoice date. If the application is not received in time, you will unfortunately not be eligible for special assistance.

When will I be notified?

Once we receive the form, you will be notified as soon as possible whether you are entitled to special assistance.

Submit changes

If your situation has changed, you may be entitled to a different amount of special assistance. Or maybe you no longer need special assistance. Consider, for example, changes in your income, your assets or your housing situation. You can report changes in your situation to us within 7 days via My Income. We will then see what the consequences are. You will receive a message about this from the municipality.
