Do you have (sudden) special necessary expenses—that is, expenses that not everyone has? And are you unable to get those expenses reimbursed in any other way? If so, you may be eligible for special assistance from the municipality.

How does it work?

Special assistance is not only available to people receiving welfare benefits. It is also available to people with higher incomes. However, the amount of assistance is often lower in such cases. You cannot apply for special assistance to cover all expenses. No reimbursement is available for everyday expenses such as groceries, rent, food, furniture, and electrical appliances.

The most common types of special expenses are listed below. These are examples. Please ask us what options are available in your situation.

  • legal fees
  • costs of guardianship
  • deductible reimbursement

Conditions for Special Assistance

You must meet the following requirements:

  • You live in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel.
  • These are extra costs that you have to incur due to special or urgent circumstances.
  • Costs are incurred in the Netherlands.
  • You have a low income.
  • Your net worth does not exceed:
    • €8,000.00 (single person);
    • €16,000.00 (single parent/family (married couple));
    • €67,500.00 (equity in own home).

Changes in your personal circumstances may affect your social assistance benefits. These could include changes in your income, your assets, or your living situation. 

Please notify us of any changes in your situation within 7 days. We will then assess the implications.
