Soil energy system: permit or notification

Ground energy allows buildings, homes and factories to be heated and cooled in a sustainable way. By using this energy, you help save fossil fuel. And you help reduce CO2 emissions.

There are 2 systems to make use of this energy in the soil:

  • In an open soil energy system, you use groundwater to cool or heat. Groundwater is cooler than the environment in the summer and warmer in the winter.
  • in a closed soil energy system (ground heat exchanger), water passes through the soil in pipes, without direct contact with groundwater.

More information can be found on the Living Environment Information Point (IPLO) website.

Check whether an environmental permit is required

With the Permit Check in the Environment Desk, you check whether you need to apply for a permit or whether making a notification or providing information is sufficient.

Do the Permit Check

Report

Does the Permit Check show that you only need to file a notification? Then you can do this in the Omgevingsloket. Do the notification at least 4 weeks before you start your activities.

Environmental permit applications

Does the Permit Check show that you need an environmental permit? Then you can apply for this permit in the Omgevingsloket. Apply for the permit at least 8 weeks before you start your activities.

Environmental Rules

If you want to build a soil energy system you must take into account the rules from the Decree on activities in the living environment. You can find these rules via Measures tailored in the Omgevingsloket.
