Burgum Town Centre Vision
The center of Burgum is doing relatively well. But will that still be the case in 10 years? Buying behavior, experience, and housing needs are changing. The trick is to respond to this in time and ensure that the center is ready for the future. For the center of Burgum, this mainly means that we have to consider how it is not only a 'place to buy' but also a 'place to be!'
Research
At the end of 2021, the Broekhuis Rijs & De Gier Advisering agency conducted research into the recent center developments of the past 10 years and how Burgum can maintain its position as a regional center and strengthen it where necessary. They did this together with the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel, the entrepreneurs association (HIMBO), Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, and Doarpsbelang Burgum. The result is a vision for the center area in which the commercial functions, housing, and social facilities are well coordinated. With the results of the research, we know where we need to focus our attention in the coming 10 years to keep Burgum attractive.
Share your ideas
Residents were given the opportunity to contribute ideas and respond to the vision. Good and feasible ideas are incorporated into the final vision and implementation agenda. You can read more about this on our Participate site. On September 15, 2022, the municipal council approved the Burgum center vision.
Development plans
At the end of 2024, a steering group from the municipality started to translate the central vision into more concrete implementation plans. The central vision has 11 lines of action. The municipal council has given priority to the greening and improvement of the Schoolstraat, Passaazje and Markt. A plan has been drawn up for this together with involved entrepreneurs, residents and other relevant organisations in the project area. These plans were shared with the residents of Burgum and other interested parties at the beginning of June. In particular, the change and greening of De Markt were positively received. The council will decide on the plans in September.
