Center vision Burgum
The center of Burgum is doing relatively well. But will it still be so in 10 years? Shopping behavior, perception and housing needs are changing. The trick is to anticipate this in time and ensure that the center is ready for the future. For the center of Burgum, this mainly means thinking about how to make it not only a 'place to buy' but also a 'place to be!'
Research
The agency Broekhuis Rijs & De Gier Advisering conducted a study in late 2021 on recent center developments over the past 10 years and how Burgum can maintain and, where necessary, strengthen its position as a regional center. They did this together with the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel, entrepreneurs association (HIMBO), Koninklijke Horeca Nederland and Doarpsbelang Burgum. The result is a vision for the center area where commercial functions, housing and social facilities are well aligned. With the results of the study, we know where we need to focus our attention in the next 10 years to keep Burgum attractive.
Think along
Residents were given the opportunity to contribute ideas and respond to the vision. Good and feasible ideas are incorporated into the final vision and implementation agenda. You can read more about this on our Participate site. On September 15, 2022, the municipal council approved the Burgum center vision.
Elaboration plans
At the end of 2024, a steering committee from the municipality started to translate the center vision into more concrete elaboration plans. The center vision formulated 11 lines of action. The city council has prioritized the greening and improvement of Schoolstraat, Passaazje and Markt. Together with involved business owners, residents and other relevant organizations in the project area, a plan was made for this. These plans were shared with the residents of Burgum and other interested parties in early June. Especially the change and greening of De Markt were received positively. In September, the council will decide on the plans.
