Circular economy
We consume far more raw materials than the earth can offer us, and this development continues. In the long term, however, this is not sustainable, and that is why we are making the transition to a circular economy that runs on renewable raw materials. In a circular economy, waste does not exist. In a circular economy, raw materials remain in cycles and are therefore available. In a circular economy, waste is therefore a valuable raw material. Our ambition is to increase circular thinking and action, and in doing so, we fulfill an exemplary function.

Circular procurement and tendering
By including circularity as part of our tenders, we are tasking entrepreneurs to pay attention to circularity and to implement it during the execution of the assignment.
Raw materials policy
We are working on improving the separation and collection of household waste. We have drawn up the raw materials policy plan for this purpose.
Collaboration agenda 'Fryslân buys circular'
Tytsjerksteradiel, together with all Frisian municipalities, the Province of Fryslân, Rijkswaterstaat Noord and Wetterskip Fryslân, has signed the Circular Economy Ambition Document. In it, it has been agreed that in 2020 we will purchase at least 10% of all products we purchase circularly. In collaboration with Circular Friesland, a program is being developed with instruments and lessons learned. We can use this in the municipal purchasing policy.
Wherever possible, we will opt for products that can be reused at the end of their lifespan or reuse products in all our purchases and tenders. Together with the suppliers, we will look at how we can best do this. In this way, we encourage each other to achieve a fully circular economy.

Circular Friesland Association
In 2016, the Circular Friesland Association was established. We are members of this association. The members help each other to achieve these goals. We do this by sharing experiences, knowledge and examples of circular procurement. The network provides and facilitates contact and consultation between buyers, specialists and governments. Training courses are also offered. This way we learn even more!
