Ecological Landscape Management
Within Tytsjerksteradiel, we implement ecological landscape management at suitable locations. This type of management is aimed at preserving and enhancing biodiversity and ecological values in public spaces.
We do this by, among other things:
Eco-Friendly Mowing
We mow a few times a year, leaving parts of the grass uncut each time. This provides shelter and habitats for insects and small animals.
Mowing and removal of roadside vegetation
Removing the clippings depletes the soil. This gives a wider variety of plant species the opportunity to grow.
Sowing Flower Meadows
We are planting flower mixes in various spots throughout the villages. This provides food and habitat for insects such as bees and butterflies.
Ecological Pond Cleanup
When maintaining ponds, we always leave some of the vegetation in place so that aquatic animals can find shelter and overwinter there.
Creating brush piles and using logs
In suitable locations, we incorporate branches and tree trunks into the landscape. This creates hiding places and food sources for birds, insects, and mushrooms.
Planting Trees and Shrubs
We deliberately choose species that bear fruit for birds and provide flowers for insects.
