Frisian in healthcare
When providing individual guidance and help with the household, the client's home situation is taken into account.
The core of the Social Support Act (WMO) is the conversation between a resident with a request for assistance and the municipality, often a member of the district team. During this conversation, both parties jointly seek solutions to the difficulties. Speaking the same language is important for a good conversation. At the beginning of the conversation, it is therefore always checked which language the resident wants to speak, and as far as possible, the representative of the municipality adapts to this. Given the composition of our residents, the members of the district team all have a passive command of Frisian.
That is how we do it
The Afûk offers healthcare providers the program ‘Dat wie doe sa’ . This program encourages healthcare providers to allow care recipients to use their own language. For more information, see Friesindezorg.frl.
