Area expansion Burgum West
City council approves plans for Burgum-West
On April 16, 2025, the municipal council adopted the Mienskips Map as a vision for the layout of the Burgum-West area. The plans were drawn up in cooperation with the community according to the New Route (see below). The initiatives on the Mienskips Map comply with the frameworks previously established by the municipal council. This completes the vision creation phase for the area.
The plan includes a hotel that includes a planetarium and location for an elm loft pod, a dog sports club, a food garden, ecological farming and a green shuttered pool.
The municipality will now elaborate and prepare the vision for the environmental plan together with the working groups. The working groups will remain in charge of working out their own initiatives.

Via a new route to an area vision for Burgum-West
In spring 2021, the municipal council gave the task of developing a widely supported vision for Burgum-West. With everyone who has a stake and interest in the area. Local residents, the citizens' initiative, nature organizations, entrepreneurs and landowners formed the so-called co-creation team. Under the guidance of an agency, they worked hard on different scenarios. This led to a preferred scenario for the area but not yet to the widely supported area vision. Also, the co-creation team was not completely satisfied with the process. So a follow-up step. This became joint decision-making according to The New Route. Everyone who feels involved in the Burgum-West area is allowed to think and talk along.

The New Route?
The next step was joint decision-making according to The New Route. Everyone who feels involved in the Burgum-West area is allowed to think, talk and decide together about what De Warren will look like. That's just 'participation' you might think. It is! With The New Route, we go one step further. The City Council determines the framework in advance; the conditions that the vision must satisfy. This cannot be changed afterwards. And that makes it exciting.
How did we do that for Burgum-West?
In 3 steps.
- We invited everyone who feels involved in the Burgum-West area to participate. Even people who may not agree.
- Neutral and impartial process facilitators prepared in advance everyone who participated in the day when a plan was jointly made.
- Together, a decision was made by everyone involved. This vision is presented to the City Council, which can no longer make changes to it.
More information about this process is at Burgum-West - I Decide Along.
