Confidentiality of personal data

The municipality keeps your personal data in the Basic Registration of Persons(BRP). Several organizations may receive your personal data from the BRP. Which organizations these are depends partly on your personal situation. For example, whether you have children or a driver's license. See which organizations may receive your personal data on the government website .

If you do not want certain organizations to receive your personal data, you can ask the municipality for confidentiality. You can also request this for your children up to age 16.

DigiDRequest secrecy

How does it work?

You request confidentiality in the municipality where you are registered.

Apply online

You can request confidentiality online or in writing with a form. Remember to include a copy of your valid identification.

Apply at the front desk

You can also request confidentiality in person at City Hall. To do so, make an appointment via telephone number 14 0511 (without the area code). Don't forget to bring your valid identification.

Duration of application

The municipal authority is obliged to comply with your request within four weeks of your request and cannot impose additional requirements. For example, the municipality cannot make such a request for a specific time, no fees can be charged, nor may it ask for a motivation.

Secrecy

Confidentiality means that the municipality may not simply issue your data to agencies. You have the right to confidentiality of your personal data. If you ask for confidentiality, the municipality will always cooperate. But sometimes the municipality may or must provide your information to certain agencies. Even if you have requested confidentiality.

Secrecy not for all agencies

Secrecy does not apply to giving your data to government agencies, such as the tax authorities, the police or the National Road Administration (RDW). In some other cases, the municipality weighs up whether your interest in confidentiality outweighs the interest in providing the data. For example, when a lawyer requests your personal data for legal proceedings in which you are involved. The municipality then asks for your opinion beforehand.

  • Request the confidentiality of your personal information from the municipality. Attach a copy of your valid ID.
  • You can stop the confidentiality of your personal data at any time.

Moving to another municipality

If you requested confidentiality and then move to another municipality, you do not have to request confidentiality again.
