Municipal Remembrance Day Ceremony in Burgum – Monday, May 4

On Monday, May 4, we will come together to commemorate the victims of war and violence during the municipal Remembrance Day ceremony in Burgum. The ceremony will take place at the monument in the cemetery near the Kruiskerk.

Silent march

At 7:15 p.m., a silent procession will depart from the Glinstra State parking lot (Freerk Bosgraafstraat entrance) and head toward the cemetery. Leading the procession, the De Marko’s drum band will provide subdued musical accompaniment. We invite everyone participating to walk in silence.

Commemoration at the monument

A brief, solemn ceremony will take place at the monument. Wreaths and flowers will be laid on the graves of military and civilian victims. We will then join the national commemoration and observe a two-minute silence together at 8:00 p.m.

After-party at the Kruiskerk

We will walk back to Glinstra State in a silent procession. Afterward, you are warmly invited to the Kruiskerk. The theme of the evening is “Understanding History.” There will be an opportunity to socialize over a cup of coffee or tea.

Flag at half-mast

We ask that you fly the flag at half-mast from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 4 in observance of the commemoration.

Together we stand in silence. Together we reflect.
