Municipal Medal of Honor / Honorary Citizenship
In 1974, the Municipal Council of Tytsjerksteradiel decided to establish the Medal of Honor, with the Honorary Citizenship attached to it. The regulations show that this decoration can be awarded in very special cases.
How does it work?
The municipal medal of honor is awarded:
- As a token of great appreciation and gratitude to those who have made significant contributions to the community of Tytsjerksteradiel;
- As a distinction to residents of the municipality who, through their great and generally recognized merits, have made themselves worthy of this award.
People who are eligible for the awards must be able to demonstrate many years of broad commitment in the social field in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel in the first instance, but also with an impact on the wider area of Fryslân and beyond.
The honorary award
The honorary award consists of a silver medal; the coat of arms of the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel is engraved on the front. The name of the recipient and the date of presentation are engraved on the back.
Awarding honorary medal/honorary citizenship
The municipal council decides on awarding the municipal medal of honor/honorary citizenship to residents of Tytsjerksteradiel. The municipal medal of honor/honorary citizenship can only be awarded if the municipal council, on the recommendation of the executive board, decides to do so by unanimous vote.
Submit application
The application can be submitted in the form of a letter, confidentially and personally addressed to the Mayor of Tytsjerksteradiel, Postbus 3, 9250 AA Burgum. The letter must contain a detailed description of all the merits of the nominated person, over a long period of years, and their significance for society. The preparations take place in the strictest secrecy and with the utmost confidentiality. The submitted data will be checked against the conditions included in the regulations.
