Municipal medal of honor / honorary citizenship

How does it work?

The municipal medal of honor is awarded:

• as a token of great appreciation and gratitude to those, who have rendered great service to the community of Tytsjerksteradiel;
• as an award to residents of the municipality, who by their great and generally recognized merits, have made themselves worthy of that award.

Persons eligible for the award must boast many years of broad social commitment in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel in the first instance, but also with radiance to the wider area of Fryslân and beyond.

The badge of honor

The medal of honor consists of a silver medal; on the front the coat of arms of the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel is engraved. On the reverse, the name of the person receiving the medal and the date of presentation are engraved.

Award of honorary medal/ honorary citizenship

The municipal council decides on awarding the municipal honorary medal/ honorary citizenship to residents of Tytsjerksteradiel. The municipal honorary medal/ honorary citizenship can only be awarded if the municipal council, on the proposal of the municipal executive, unanimously decides to do so.

Submit application

The application may be submitted in the form of a letter, confidentially and personally addressed to the Mayor of Tytsjerksteradiel, PO Box 3, 9250 AA Burgum. The letter must contain a detailed description of all the merits of the nominated person, over a long series of years and their significance to society. Preparations are made in the utmost secrecy and confidentiality. Submissions are reviewed against the conditions set forth in the regulations.
