During ditch maintenance, vegetation (aquatic plants) is removed from the ditches to keep the waterways clear and allow excess water to drain properly. The maintenance of ditches and banks is often the responsibility of the owner of the land along the ditch.

When is hedge trimming carried out?

The work will start at the end of August. The aim is to complete the ditching around 1 November. In practice, it appears that it can sometimes, due to inspections, changes and weather conditions, run until mid-December.

When is the hedge trimming waste cleared up?

  • The municipality aims to have everything cleaned up before the month of March each year.
  • Within the built-up area, the aim is to have everything cleared away before Christmas.

Why does road sweepings sometimes remain for a long time?

Clearing away hedge clippings is so-called 'stop work' for the municipality's employees. In quiet periods or if there is an empty vehicle nearby, the employees clear away the hedge clippings.

Who is responsible for the hackling?

The owner of the ditch is responsible for maintaining it. In many cases, the cadastral boundary lies in the middle of the ditch, so there are 2 parties responsible.

Request to heckle

A request for ditch maintenance can be submitted via Fixi. The municipality employee will process the request and check whether the ditch or waterway in question is managed by the municipality and whether ditch maintenance is necessary.
