The new Water and Sewerage Program (WRP) has been finalized

The new WRP for the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel has been adopted. This marks an important step toward a future-proof Tytsjerksteradiel. In the coming years, we will be working to ensure that our villages are better prepared for heavy rain, flooding, drought, and heat. This is necessary because our weather is changing: it rains more often and more heavily, but periods of dry weather and heat are also becoming longer.

In the WRP, we’re not just looking at solutions for the present, but also at what’s needed for the future. This includes ways to better retain water, make streets and gardens greener, and prepare our sewer system for extreme downpours.

Together with residents, business owners, and the council

We involved residents, business owners, and council members in the development of the new WRP from the very beginning. Through a survey, an open house, and discussions with the council, we gathered many valuable ideas. A total of 249 people participated in the survey, which gave us a good sense of what is going on in our villages.

Residents shared their experiences with flooding, drought, and heat, as well as ideas for their street or neighborhood. That input helped us create a program that truly addresses the issues people care about.

Together, we’ll keep building

With the WRP now in place, we can take targeted action in the coming years. We’ll do this as a municipality, but also in collaboration with residents, business owners, and organizations. Because everyone can contribute—in their garden, on their property, or on the street.
