Individual study allowance

Are you 18 years or older and have a (work) disability? Then it is sometimes difficult to combine an education with a part-time job. As a result, you often have to borrow more than students without a disability. To prevent a high study debt, there is the individual study allowance. Furthermore, the municipality wants to encourage young people with a (work) disability to study. This increases the chance of a higher income.

How does it work?

The Study Supplement is for students who meet the following conditions:

  • You are structurally unable to earn money alongside your studies as a direct result of an illness or disability;
  • You are attending a study where you receive study financing under the WSF 2000 or a contribution to study costs under the WTOS;
  • You are not entitled to benefits under the Wajong.

There is no asset limit.

How do I apply for the Study Supplement?

You apply for the Study Allowance using the application form at the bottom of this page. After applying, you will be notified as soon as possible whether or not you qualify. As long as you continue to meet the conditions, you will receive the Study Allowance and you will not have to reapply. An application for Study Allowance can be granted with a maximum of 5 years retroactivity, but with a deadline of April 1, 2022.

What do I get?

The amount of the Study Supplement depends on your age. Currently (as of Jan. 1, 2025), the following amounts apply:

AgeNet amounts per month
21 years and older€ 369,75
20 years€ 295,80
19 years€ 221,85

17 years€ 146,06
16 years€ 127,57
15 years€ 110,93
Release of internship allowance€ 221,85

A study grant does not count as support if you should ever apply for special assistance as a 21-year-old or older.

What should I adhere to?

For the Study Allowance, you will provide, upon request or as soon as possible on your own accord, any information that may affect entitlement to the Study Allowance.
