Information on reception of refugees from Ukraine

Because of the war, people from Ukraine are fleeing their country. In our municipality, we have set up a number of shelters. A number of refugees are also staying in people's homes. We join the coordination from the safety region of Fryslân.

Shelter sign up?

It is great to see that many residents are lending a helping hand. And that residents are willing to accommodate refugees. Currently, the municipality ensures that refugees get a place in a municipal reception location. There is enough space there now and there is no need (yet) to house them with private individuals.

• Are you already hosting Ukrainian refugees?
  If so, it is important that they register as soon as possible. Call us for an appointment at 14 0511.

Providing shelter

Would you like a refugee to stay in your home? We can only appreciate that. However, we do ask you to consider the following points of interest:

• Keep in mind that at this point it is not clear how long they will be staying with you. A few days is manageable, but what if it is a few weeks or months?
• These people have been through quite a bit in recent days, and chances are there is war trauma and other mental health issues. This affects behavior. This also affects your own family.
• Although refugees are free to work in the Netherlands and are entitled to financial assistance, there will be no income for at least the first few months. Consider that this means you will have extra mouths to feed.
• In addition, this means something for your family composition and therefore perhaps certain income components such as your own benefits or allowances.
• Uninsured refugees from Ukraine are eligible for medically necessary care. Medically necessary care involves treatment in a hospital or elsewhere because care cannot be postponed.
