Registering a stillborn child
When a child is born stillborn, it is a great emotional loss. If you wish, you can have your child registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP). This is not mandatory. You submit your request for registration to the municipality where you live.
With this registration, your stillborn child is visible to you via MijnOverheid.nl and on an extract from the Personal Records Database (BRP).
How does it work?
- Submit a request to the municipality where you live.
- To register your child, a birth (stillborn) certificate or a certificate of a stillborn child is required. If you do not have such a certificate, you can still have one drawn up in the municipality where your child was born.
- It is possible that your child's names are not on the (stillborn) birth certificate or stillborn child certificate. In that case, you must provide the names with your request for registration in the Personal Records Database (BRP). Parents can therefore individually provide a different name. That is not a problem in this situation.
Please contact the civil affairs department of the municipality at 14 0511 or gemeente@t-diel.nl to schedule an appointment.
What do I need to bring?
- A certificate of birth (stillborn) or a certificate of a stillborn child.
- A valid proof of identity.
Your child was born abroad
- Documents related to the birth, such as a certificate drawn up abroad stating that your child was stillborn.
- If it is difficult for you to obtain these documents, please indicate this to the municipality. Because this is a very personal situation, the rules are handled with leniency and understanding. You can then make a declaration about the birth of your child at the municipality.
