Ms. Vijverda plants tree in '100-year-old forest'

It was a special and festive moment on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Wetter en Willepark in Burgum. Mrs. Fetsje Vijverda-van der Heide (100) planted a tree in the '100-year-old forest' together with her family and Mayor Tineke Schokker. Her secret to a long and healthy life: "Every day in aai and once a week a sâlte hjerring."

Earlier this year, on October 27, Mrs. Vijverda celebrated her 100th birthday. Vijverda is the only resident of the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel to reach this special age this calendar year. "It is special to be here with Mrs. Vijverda, who has lived in our municipality for her entire life," says Mayor Schokker. "Mrs. Vijverda is a local legend. With this gift, we are giving her a permanent place in Tytsjerksteradiel."

100-year-old forest since 2023

The '100-year-old forest' was established in 2023. For every resident of Tytsjerksteradiel who reaches the age of 100, a tree is planted in the Wetter en Willepark at the end of the year. This gradually creates a living monument: a green reminder of special residents of the municipality.
