Change of first name
You can ask the court to change your first name. For example, because you don't like your first name or your first name no longer suits you, for example because of a gender change. You need a lawyer to submit the request.
How does it work?
- Contact a lawyer.
- The lawyer then submits the application to the court.
- In the case of a minor, one of the parents or the guardian makes the request through a lawyer.
Adjusting documents
- Your new first name must be on your identity document. Therefore, apply for a new passport, identity card and/or new driving license.
- If the court decides that your first name may be changed, the municipality will amend your birth certificate.
- The municipality registers your new first name. All government agencies that receive data from the municipality will then also know your new first name.
- You must notify other organizations yourself that you have a new first name.
