Nature-friendly insulation

When you make changes to your home or garden, you can disturb or even kill vulnerable plants and animals. This is not good for nature and prohibited under the Environment Act. We are all obliged to consider these protected animals such as bats, house sparrows or swifts.

The following measures are known to cause animals to be trapped:

  • cavity wall insulation
  • exterior wall insulation
  • exterior roof insulation
  • insulation of parapets
  • installation of solar panels

How can you do nature-friendly insulation?

You choose a licensed wildlife-friendly insulation company. These companies know exactly how to work safely without harming animals. Beforehand, the company checks whether animals are present in your home. This is done with eDNA research: this involves looking for traces of DNA from protected animal species. In this way, we know quickly and without inconvenience whether protected animals are present.

Is no DNA found? Then the work can proceed immediately. Is DNA found? Then sometimes additional ecological research is required for an exemption from the province of Fryslân. This is the case in about half of the cases. The province helps you with this, so that your project can proceed in an animal-friendly manner and according to the rules. In this way you can save energy and give nature a helping hand.
