Environmental permit applications
Do you want to build, remodel, change use, demolish, cut down a tree or build a driveway? You often need an environmental permit. Do you want to do several activities in one place? For example, rebuild and cut down a tree? Then you can apply for an environmental permit all at once.
Sometimes you may build or remodel without an environmental permit. For example, for ordinary maintenance or installing a dormer on the back of your home.
Step 1: Check whether an environmental permit is required
Permit Check
With the Permit Check in the Environment Desk you can check whether you need an environmental permit, a notification or whether your building plan is permit-free. You can also see which environmental permit you need or which notification you must make. For example, a building permit or demolition notification.
Note: The Permit Check does not give you certainty, but it does give you an idea of your chances.
Submit draft application (not required)
Want to know for sure if you need an environmental permit? Then make a draft request in the Omgevingsloket. Start your request and go through the steps. At step 7 you can choose to send your application as a draft request. We will then let you know how likely it is that your application will be approved. You may submit a draft request, but you do not have to.
A draft request costs money. You will get this cost back when you apply for an environmental permit. The costs, which you may incur for welfare advice, will not be refunded.
Step 2: Tell the environment about your plan
Your work may affect the people and businesses in the area. This is why we ask you to always engage in dialogue with your surroundings. You can read how to do this on the page Participation in the Environment Act.
Step 3: Apply for the environmental permit
Do you need a permit? Then you can apply for the environmental permit in the Environment Counter. Make sure your application is as complete as possible. This will prevent delays. Also make sure that there are no privacy-sensitive data in the attachment. For example, your BSN.
Apply for environmental permit
Once the environmental permit has been applied for, you will receive a receipt confirmation from the Environment Counter. We will also send a confirmation of receipt afterwards. This way you can be sure that your application has reached us.
Multiple works in one permit
Do you want to do more work at the same time? Then you only need to apply for one environmental permit. The applications will be processed in this environmental permit.
Your application costs money
Applying for an environmental permit costs money. In some cases, you can get a (partial) refund of your money. You can find this information in the fee regulations.
The municipality announces your application
The municipality publishes your application in the Actief and via officielebekendmakingen.nl. This gives interested parties, such as your neighbors, a chance to respond.
Step 4: Wait for the municipality's review
Among other things, we verify that your application:
- fits the environmental plan;
- complies with the rules of the Built Environment Decree (Bbl);
- complies with building standards (found via Rules on the map in the Environment Desk).
Sometimes we seek advice from another organization. For example, the Wetterskip.
The municipality usually decides within 8 weeks
The main rule is the regular procedure. This means that in most cases we make a decision on the application within 8 weeks. This can be extended by us by 6 weeks. In some cases, we must prepare the permit using a more extensive procedure. Then we make a decision within 26 weeks. This extended period is an exception. This can also be extended by us by 6 weeks.
The municipality publishes the decision in the Actief and via officielebekendmakingen.nl.
