Council agenda finalized and coalition-building begins
The Tytsjerksteradiel Municipal Council has finalized its council program for the upcoming term. This marks the completion of an important phase following the municipal elections held on March 18, 2026. The council is now entering the exploratory phase with the aim of forming a coalition. The council has appointed Arjen Droog and Stieneke van der Graaf as facilitators to oversee this process.
Council program completed
Following the elections, the new council adopted a council-wide program, to be supplemented by a coalition agreement to be drawn up at a later date. The council program sets out the shared positions on which all parties in the council can agree. Over the past period, the council has been working on this under the leadership of Mr. Droog. The presentation and adoption of the council program will take place during the council meeting on May 21, 2026. This is in accordance with the schedule that was previously agreed upon. The documents for this meeting will be shared shortly via raad.t-diel.nl.
On the path to a coalition
Mr. Droog is the director of the Fryslân Planning Bureau and was already involved in the council program as a process facilitator. Ms. Van der Graaf, a former member of the House of Representatives, is currently acting mayor of the municipality of Weststellingwerf. Over the coming weeks, the informateurs will hold talks with all political groups to determine which parties can form a coalition together. Droog and Van der Graaf will present their recommendations regarding the possible coalition composition during the council meeting on May 21. Based on this, the council will decide on the next step in the coalition formation process.
