Advertising on or attached to a building

You may not simply place advertising on or attached to a building. The advertising must not, for example, endanger traffic. Do you want to place an advertising sign on a building? Or use advertising lighting? Then apply for an environmental permit from the municipality.

This is advertising that you place on or attached to a building. These include signs, banners and text or images on walls.

How does it work?

Through the Environment Counter you can find out if you need to apply for a permit. You can submit the application online immediately. You do this with DigiD. Companies can only submit the application online. Use eHerkenning.

Permit application

Please fill out the application form completely. When doing so, please provide the following information:

  • Why you want to place advertising;
  • How great the advertising is;
  • A drawing or photograph of the advertisement.

Send the application form with the requested documents to the municipality. You will receive a confirmation of receipt. Then you will automatically be notified whether you will receive the permit.

Additional Information

The municipality may deny a permit for an advertisement with advertising lights for the following reasons:

  • Advertising does not comply with the Dutch Foundation for Illumination's Directive on Light Nuisance (inquire with municipality)
  • The advertisement does not comply with standards of appearance;
  • If advertising interferes with traffic safety;
  • If advertising interferes with users of surrounding properties.
