Shoreline management grant schemes
Residents and companies in Fryslân can apply for a subsidy to replace or renew a bank along the Frisian waterways. This subsidy is an initiative of the province of Fryslân, Frisian municipalities and Wetterskip Fryslân.
Which banks are eligible?
A digital map clearly shows who is responsible for the management and maintenance of these banks. The map can be found at www.fryslan.frl/oeversvaarwegen. It also shows which banks can be subsidized. This is because not all banks are eligible for subsidies. There are some conditions a bank must meet. These include the width of the waterway or the speed of current. A total of 385,000 euros of subsidy is available each year. The subsidy reimburses part of the cost of bank management. The final amount of the subsidy depends on the local situation.
Two subsidy schemes
The subsidy is a collaboration between the province, Frisian municipalities and Wetterskip Fryslân. It is actually 2 subsidy schemes: one from the province, the other from Wetterskip Fryslân. An application for subsidy always starts with the province via the aforementioned website. First, a test is made to see if a bank is eligible for subsidy. If the bank is eligible, it is also immediately clear where the application can be submitted: to the province or to Wetterskip Fryslân.
