Field research in our municipality!

Did you know that protected bats and birds live in our buildings and homes? Often in places that are targeted during renovations, such as when insulating cavity walls or making changes to the roof.

In order to develop a species management plan, the municipality would like to know exactly where these species live. This is helpful because, once we know this, residents won’t have to investigate it themselves whenever there are plans for renovation.

How does this affect you?

Throughout the year, field staff conduct surveys in our residential areas. They do this on foot or by bicycle, mainly in the evening or at night. The field staff identify where protected animals live and use special equipment, such as devices to detect bats.

  • A field worker may stop briefly in front of a house to listen.
  • They never enter a home.
  • Field staff can be recognized by their work uniforms, which feature the Witteveen logo.
