Moving abroad
Are you moving abroad?
- Before you leave the Netherlands, notify the municipality of your emigration.
- You emigrate if you spend at least 8 months within 1 year abroad.
- These 8 months need not be contiguous.
Do you live with several people at one address and not everyone goes with you? Then everyone who does accompany you must visit the municipality in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.
How does it work?
You must file the declaration within 5 days before your departure from the Netherlands. You can declare your departure online. Or make an appointment to visit us. To do so, you must be registered in Tytsjerksteradiel.
The municipality may require you to visit in person and provide additional information about your departure.
If you are moving abroad, there is a lot to arrange before you leave the Netherlands. It is often difficult to do this later from another country. Check what you already need to arrange in the Netherlands with the Dutch government. This will save you a lot of time and effort.
You notify the municipality of your departure up to 5 days in advance. When doing so, please provide the following information:
- the names and dates of birth of family members emigrating with you
- your old address
- your new address
- the date of emigration
Note
You will be deregistered on the day you submit your move (i.e., not as of your actual departure date).
You can report your emigration online if the emigration applies to all residents of the address. Otherwise, report the emigration in person at the municipality. You can make an appointment to do so.

- Parents, guardians or caregivers for children under 16 years of age
- Passing for each other if you live at the same address: parents and their adult child or children, spouses or registered partners
Some persons may pass on emigration for someone else:
- The head of a health care facility for a person living there.
Declaration of moving abroad by an authorized representative is not possible.

Are you abroad?
Even from abroad, you can often notify your departure online. In some countries, this is not possible due to security reasons in that country. Unable to communicate your departure online? Communicate your departure in writing using the emigration form. Complete this form and send it to gemeente@t-diel.nl.
