Communicating relocation
Are you moving?
- Please notify us if you are moving to or within the municipality.
- Do this no later than 5 days after you move. You can also submit it 4 weeks before the move date.
- Are you moving to another municipality? Please inform your new municipality. You do not have to deregister with us.
Report your move on time. If you are late in notifying us, it may have consequences for such things as your rent allowance, student loan, parking permit, municipal taxes or benefits.
Communicating in writing
Prefer to submit your move in writing? You can do so with the relocation form. Don't forget to include a copy of your identification.
Unable to pass on the move digitally or with the form? Then call 14 0511 to see what your options are.
Moving abroad
If you are moving abroad from the municipality, you must notify the municipality at least 5 days before your departure. You will then file a declaration of emigration. Different rules apply to emigration. The page Moving abroad tells you what you must do.
What to do.
Once the move has been submitted you will automatically receive a confirmation in your mailbox. We will update the details on your move date.
You can view your (changed) data on MijnOverheid. It may take a few business days for the new data to be visible.
Moving date
Do you report the day of moving 4 weeks in advance? Or within 5 days after you have moved? Then we will use your reported date as the moving day. So you can specify your own moving date, if you do so on time. Did you move more than 5 days ago? Then the day you pass on is the moving date.
- Example 1
You notify us on May 15 that you will be moving on June 1. We will register you at the new address on June 1. - Example 2
You notify us on August 15 that you moved on August 1. In this case, the move was more than 5 days ago. We will therefore register you at the new address as of August 15.
Registering for short-term stays in the Netherlands
If you come to the Netherlands from abroad to work or study, you will need a Citizen Service Number (BSN) for your contact with the Dutch government. More information about this can be found on the government's website and is intended for persons staying in the Netherlands for no longer than 4 months.
Who gets to report the move?
The following individuals may report a move:
- everyone 16 years and older for themselves;
- cohabiting spouses/registered partners for each other (only if they both move to the same address);
- the parent, guardian or caregiver for minor children;
- parent(s) for resident adult children (only if they both move to the same address);
- adult children for resident parent(s) (only if they both move to the same address);
- the trustee for a person under guardianship;

- the head of the institution for persons residing in an institution;
- someone you have authorized to pass on the move for you.
Authorities that need the details of your move
The municipality will pass on your move to the agencies that need this information to perform their legal duties. Authorities that will be notified in any case are: SVB, Tax Office, Water Board and health insurance companies and pension funds to which people are affiliated.
Not married/no registered partnership
Unmarried and unregistered partners cannot submit a removal for each other. In this case, you must both submit the move digitally separately. Or visit both at the same time.
What does it cost?
Communicating a move is free of charge.
