Alderman De Pee quits in Tytsjerksteradiel

Caroline de Pee from Franeker will quit as alderman of the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel on December 1. She will continue as alderman in Vlieland, if the council of the wadden municipality agrees. De Pee had been an alderman in Tytsjerksteradiel since the current college took office on July 12, 2022. She had previously agreed with the group of the CDA to remain as alderman from outside for a period of four years.

"Tytsjerksteradiel is a wonderful municipality, with wonderful companies, organizations and committed residents," De Pee said. "I am grateful to have been able to serve them. It is unfortunate that I cannot finish the period, but I did not want to miss the opportunity to start working in Vlieland. That's another very different administrative environment, which I am happy to experience."

What she took into consideration was that her brother-in-law was recommended as mayor of Tytsjerksteradiel. "Immediately when I saw that he was a candidate, I realized that it would not be wise to be in a college together. Even though this is permitted by law. The discussion in the college should be as pure as possible. Family ties should not get in the way of that. In addition, I also don't want discussions in college to potentially interfere with family ties."

De Pee had already planned to indicate that she would quit as soon as the mayor's appointment was finalized through a Royal Decree. "That's not the case yet. But now I don't have to wait for that either." De Pee was previously an alderman for the municipality of Franekeradeel and Waadhoeke for eight years.
