Specifics
Members of the drum band 'de Marko's' accompany the silent procession with a somber roll on muffled drums. At the monument, wreaths and flowers are laid on the graves of military and civilian victims. Members of the National Reserve stand guard at the graves of five Allied airmen. Cooperation is provided by Rotary Club Burgum, Music Association Legato, students from Burgum primary schools and members of scouting 'De Twirre'.
Flag protocol May 4th
On May 4, flags in the Netherlands are flown at half-mast as a sign of respect for the war victims. The National Committee for 4 and 5 May calls on all residents to fly the flag at half-mast all day on May 4 (from sunrise to sunset).
