Mayor wanted

The municipality is looking for a new mayor who is a good fit for Tytsjerksteradiel. Appointing a new mayor is a long-term process that requires a great deal of care. A selection committee has been formed, consisting of council members. This committee ensures that the various steps in the process are properly completed. On this page you can read what this process looks like and what steps are taken.
14 steps to appointing a new mayor
Completed: Step 1: Confidential Committee
A confidential committee has been formed consisting of members of the municipal council. This committee does the preparatory work for the profile, conducts job interviews and makes the final recommendation as to who is the best candidate.
On February 27, 2025, the municipal council decided on the establishment of the selection committee.
Completed: Step 2: Profile
The municipal council draws up a profile for the new mayor. This is a kind of job description, outlining what the mayor should be good at, what kind of person we are looking for, and what task he or she will be assigned. It also covers aspects such as leadership, communication, and decision-making style.
From March 19 to 28, residents of the municipality were able to give their opinion on a new mayor by completing a questionnaire online or by telephone. The questionnaire was in the Actief weekly on March 19 (Frisian) and March 26 (Dutch) and was distributed via the village halls and the town hall.
Completed: Step 3: King's Commissioner of Friesland
During the public council meeting on May 20, the municipal council will discuss the profile sketch with Arno Brok, King's Commissioner (CdK) of Fryslân, and adopt it.
Completed: Step 4: Vacancy
The Minister of the Interior opens the vacancy on the advice of the King's Commissioner.
Completed: Step 5: Application period - May 27 to June 17
The vacancy is open for 3 weeks, and interested parties can send their applications to the King's Commissioner.
Completed: Step 6: The candidates
The King's Commissioner selects eligible candidates. He investigates, among other things, whether a candidate has had any contact with the justice system.
Currently in progress: Step 7: Selection
The King's Commissioner consults with the selection committee about the selection of candidates he has made. The selection committee decides which candidates to invite for an interview.
