Copy or extract of marital status

In the civil registry, we record data about certain life events. For example, a birth, marriage, partner registration or divorce.

You request a copy or extract of these certificates from the municipality where the certificate was made. For example, you request a copy or extract of your birth certificate from the municipality where you were born. And a copy of a marriage certificate is requested from the municipality where you were married.

What is the difference between a transcript and an excerpt?

Copy

A transcript is an official copy of the deed, stamped by the municipality. A transcript says exactly the same thing as the deed itself.

Excerpt

An excerpt is a current summary of the deed. You never receive the deed itself; it remains the property of the municipality and is stored in the registers of the civil registry.

International extract

An extract of civil status is available internationally. In some cases, you must have the extract translated yourself by a sworn translator.
