Proof of being alive

A proof of being alive is an official declaration that you are alive. You apply for a proof of being alive at the municipality where you are registered. 

Apply for proof of living

You can request proof of living in 2 ways: 

  • you request the statement online using the button below. You pay immediately via iDEAL. We will send it to you by mail. You do not have to come to the town hall. 
  • You make an appointment to make the entire application at City Hall. You pay for the declaration during your appointment. You can take the document with you right away.

Note: In some cases, you will need to visit the town hall in person. This will be evident from the options you can choose from when you apply online.

What does it cost?

A proof of being alive costs €17.10.

Proof of being alive is free if you can show that you need it for your retirement. Bring your pension letter with you for this purpose.

What do I bring to the appointment?

Are you applying for proof of reading in person at City Hall? Then bring the following with you: 

  • a valid ID; 
  • cash or a bank card. 

Are you requesting the statement for a pension fund? If so, you will also need the original letter from the pension fund. 

Apply for a certificate for your minor child(ren)?

Parents, if registered at the same address, can request the statement for their minor children.

Where valid?

You need proof of being alive, for example, if your life insurer or pension fund asks for it. Proof of being alive is valid in: 

  • Netherlands 
  • Aruba 
  • Curaçao 
  • Bonaire 
  • Saint Martin 
  • Sint Eustatius 
  • Saba
