Doarpskrante de Koekoek wins prize for Frisian village journalism
On Wednesday, the prize for Frisian village journalism of Tytsjerksteradiel was awarded for the third time. This year's winner is the village newspaper 'De Koekoek' from Sumar. The author of the piece, Ids Krol from Sumar, used an article to depict the family history of Wierd and Detje de Boer and their children, using a 'boelguodboekje' (inventory list of possessions) as a starting point. The board provides a prize for 'the best Frisian-language article' from a village newspaper or village website in the municipality. The aim is to promote Frisian-language writing and reading in this way.
Boereboelguod in Sumarreheide
The expert jury, consisting of Skelte Anema from the Afûk and Gerrit van der Meer from Actief Media, has selected the article by Ids Krol from all entries. The jury found the piece very interesting. It is about the De Boer family from Sumarreheide, or rather mainly about widow Detje Wolters Tiekstra and her ten children. Councillor Tytsy Willemsma presented the award in the De Kamp village hall in Sumar: “It is an honor to present the award for village journalism today. An award that reflects on the stories that bind and connect us. The stories of then and now. Ids Krol is a storyteller 'pur sang'. And that lifts a village newspaper to a higher level of connection. An aspect that we desperately need today. The Koekoek is highly valued in the village and that is a credit to the entire editorial team.”

A total of 13 articles were submitted from the villages of Earnewâld, Eastermar, Garyp, Hurdegaryp, Jistrum, Mûnein, and Sumar. As two years ago, the level of the pieces was better than the first edition.
