Renewed cycling and walking route 'Chasing legends through the Frisian Forests'
Today, about thirty people cycled part of the renewed cycling and walking route 'Sagen jagen troch de Fryske Wâlden' (Chasing stories through the Frisian Forests), created by the Dam Jaarsma Foundation. The 15 or 40 km route has been supplemented with a work of art and 'story benches' that tell the folk tales from the area in a contemporary way. These folk tales were collected by Dam Jaarsma (1914 -1991) from Eastermar and narrated by storyteller Douwe Kootstra.
Councilor Tytsy Willemsma unveiled the artwork 'Alone' along the way with a poem by Dam Jaarsma, shaped by artist Wietske Lycklama à Nijeholt. Councilor Tjibbe Brinkman (from Achtkarspelen) later presented a special story bench at De Spitkeet in De Harkema. The bench was designed and made by Egbert Teeninga.
