Green schoolyard at Liudger in Burgum
Last year, CSG Liudger Burgum, together with the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel and landscaper Snoek Puur Groen, made their schoolyard greener. This way, the school creates a greener and more sustainable environment for their students. The project is part of the School Garden Week.
Comfortable seating
Alderman Tytsy Willemsma helped with sowing the grass. "A green schoolyard provides a pleasant place to sit during breaks," Willemsma explained. "And the variety of greenery is good for biodiversity." Climbing plants will be placed against the wall and the bicycle parking. Furthermore, trees and hedges will be planted, and new borders and lawns will be laid out. Due to the heavy rain, not everything has been planted yet, but it already promises to be a beautiful result before the summer.
Vegetable garden
By creating a vegetable garden, students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience. They learn how their food grows and what is involved before it ends up on their plate. Additionally, a green environment improves concentration during lessons.
Healthy and sustainable
School gardens contribute to a positive attitude of children towards healthy food and ensure that children make healthy and sustainable food choices. This is good for their health, but also for nature and biodiversity, for the climate and against food waste. The School Garden Week is an initiative of the School Garden Alliance and Young People Learning about Food.
