Did you come to the Netherlands as a refugee and now have a residence permit? Then we will call you a status holder. For your situation, see the page integration as a status holder.
Integration from Jan. 1, 2022
On January 1, 2022, the new Civic Integration Act took effect. The municipality will help you get integrated as soon as possible. See how the municipality can help you here.
Watch the video in your own language here:
Conversation
- Your integration consultant will invite you for an interview. This is an employee of the Municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel.
- This employee will advise you on your integration period
- During this interview, your integration counselor will tell you what steps are required for your integration program (what steps you will take until you are integrated)
Learnability test
- Integration requires you to take a "learnability test.
- With the result of the test and through the conversation with you, the integration counselor will get information about how quickly you could learn the Dutch language.
- With that information, the counselor can advise you on what is needed for your integration.
- Your integration counselor can also give you information about available schools.
- Then you can choose a language school for your integration.
Integration and Participation Plan
- After about 10 weeks comes the final interview.
- Together with you, the counselor makes a personal Integration and Participation Plan (PIP for short). The PIP contains the agreements about your integration and guidance by the municipality.
- You are now ready to start civics.
- Because of the Integration Act, you are required to cooperate in everything for the preparation of the PIP.
- During your civic integration period, the municipality will invite you several times for an interview to see how your civic integration is going. These interviews are also mandatory.
You received your residence permit between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2022
Did you receive your residence permit after January 1, 2013? And are you required to integrate? If so, you will receive a letter from the Education Executive Agency (DUO). This letter states how much time you have to pass the integration exam: 3 years from the date you received your residence permit. This is your 'integration period'.
- You are responsible for your own integration.
- You need to find an integration course yourself. Read more information about this at 'civic integration course'.
- You must pass the integration exam within the 3-year integration period. If you do not cooperate, you may receive a fine from DUO. Failure to cooperate may have consequences for your residence permit. You can find more information at Inburgeren.nl.
DUO loan almost used up?
Have you almost used up your DUO loan? Or should you have passed your integration exam within a year and you have already used €7,500.00 of your loan? If so, you will receive a letter from DUO.
What should you do then?
- We ask that you contact the Municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel directly at telephone number 14 0511 and ask for the Inburgering team.
- We will discuss with you how you can get the lessons you still need as soon as possible within the integration deadline.
- We also look at how you can pass KNM, ONA and your exams as quickly as possible. We call this help with ELIP (Einde Lening Inburgeringsplicht).
