Jeroen Gebben resigns as mayor of Tytsjerksteradiel

Mayor Jeroen Gebben is stepping down as mayor of Tytsjerksteradiel to become Director of Safety and General Commander of the Fire Brigade Fryslân. He announced this to the municipal council and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Tuesday, November 19. This morning, the staff was also informed of his departure.

"I am incredibly honored to be able to fill the position of Director of Safety and General Commander of the Fire Department Fryslân. I am very much looking forward to helping the Veiligheidsregio Fryslân, together with all employees, management and directors, further forward in these turbulent times," says Jeroen Gebben about his new position. "At the same time, I look back with satisfaction on my term of office in Tytsjerksteradiel. There has been much joy and sorrow, and I am glad that, in cooperation with the council and the board, I was able to prepare the organization to continue independently. I have every confidence that this pleasantly headstrong municipality will flourish again."

Eight years as mayor

Gebben will start his new position at the Safety Region on March 1, 2025. His last working day at the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel is on Friday, February 28, exactly eight years after his installation. In 2023, Gebben was reappointed as mayor. Following this announcement, the municipal council can start the procedure to find a successor.
