Beurtschip candidates receive welding diploma or practical certificate

This week, 10 candidates from the Beurtschip work-study project of the municipalities of Achtkarspelen and Tytsjerksteradiel obtained their welding diploma. They received the diploma during a festive ceremony from Alderman Harjan Bruining. In addition, another 10 candidates received a practical certificate for production technology employee, presented by Anneke de Rapper from Firda.

"Obtaining the welding training gives the candidates a valuable first step towards paid work. In addition to learning a trade, participation in the project gives the candidates self-confidence," says alderman Bruining of the municipality of Achtkarspelen.

Several candidates have now found paid employment.

Restoration of old tjalk

Under the guidance of project leader Bryan Kes, the candidates worked last year on the restoration of the 100-year-old barge 'Nederland en Oranje'. They did this in the Wadro warehouse in Drogeham. After 5 years of work, the ship has now been completely restored to its former glory. Visitors were given a tour of the ship before the graduation ceremony.
