Temporary Emergency Fund Energy closed (update)
The Temporary Emergency Fund for Energy is available for households with a low income and a high energy bill. The Emergency Fund helps people avoid energy debts.
The available funds have been exhausted. A large number of applications were received in just a few days. As a result, the budget of 56.3 million euros has already been fully used. The Emergency Energy Fund regrets this, as they would have liked to help more households. Currently, no additional funds have been promised by the central government. Therefore, the Emergency Fund is now closed.
Since the reopening on Tuesday, April 22, more than 210,000 applications have been received. Based on calculations and experience from previous years, the Emergency Fund expects that the entire available budget of 56.3 million euros will be used.
"The enormous influx of applications in less than a week shows how much financial pressure many households are currently under and how much need there is for support," said a spokesperson for the Emergency Fund. "We understand that the closure is disappointing for households that still wanted to submit an application. At the same time, we hope that the households that have submitted an application will experience some relief and peace of mind."
Applications processed in the coming weeks
In the coming weeks, the Emergency Fund will process the submitted applications and ensure that the available support reaches the households that are eligible. The Emergency Fund expects to be able to support approximately 100,000 households. Energy suppliers and grid operators also contribute financially to the implementation of the Emergency Fund.
