Budding Wâldsjongers at Liudger in Burgum
For the project ‘Wâldsjonger in secondary education’, students from schools in the municipalities of Achtkarspelen and Tytsjerksteradiel have been writing Frisian lyrics. Wâldsjonger Marcel Smit helped them with this. Four girls from csg Liudger in Burgum wrote the winning song ‘Alvedoarpentocht’.
'Wâldsjonger in secondary education'
The municipalities of Achtkarspelen and Tytsjerksteradiel have a Wâldsjonger, Marcel Smit from Burgum. He writes Frisian-language songs and performs them at special occasions and events in both municipalities. For the project 'Wâldsjonger in secondary education', the Wâldsjonger gave a guest lesson at the participating schools: csg Lauwers College from Bûtenpost, osg Singelland from Surhústerfean, csg Liudger from Burgum and osg Singelland from Burgum. Together with Marcel Smit and their teachers of the subject Frisian, the students wrote song lyrics based on the theme 'Story from the Wâlden'.
The winning song
Nine song lyrics were submitted by the participating schools. The song 'Alvedoarpentocht', written by Liudger students Jelliena Been, Jelly Andringa, Eline Melenberg, and Bente Zuidema, was chosen as the winner. Tjeerd Kooistra, a Frisian teacher, supervised the young songwriters. According to the jury, consisting of Atsje Lettinga (owner of Paviljoen MEM and project leader of Wâldsmûk), Marcel Smit (Wâldsjonger and Frisian singer/songwriter), and Durkje Verbeek (policy advisor for Culture and Frisian), it is an original story and the song fits well with the theme. It also fits well within the rhyme scheme and the music.
The popular music trio 'de Doelleazen' from Buitenpost is turning the winning song into a house number. In July, the students of the winning school can enjoy a performance by de Doelleazen and Marcel Smit.
